Description of the Classes

Grief Share Leader: Rev. Dr. Doug Kirk
If you’ve lost a spouse, child, family member or friend, you’ve probably found there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. This can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you’ve never faced before. This group will meet weekly to help face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each Grief Share session has three distinct elements: a video seminar with experts, support group discussion with focus, and workbook-based study & reflection.

The Way of Discernment Leaders: Dan & Kay Greathouse
This study focuses on the ancient spiritual discipline of discernment for the individual, congregations or larger bodies of the church. It follows a format of a weekly reading, daily exercises and a weekly small-group meeting. More of a journey in discernment than a how-to guide, this study for groups gently leads to the prayerful path of a richer, wiser life both for individuals and the larger church.

The Gospel of Mark Leader: Dr. Harold Henderson
This class will enter Mark's gospel through a study of N.T. "Tom" Wright's Mark for Everyone. It is designed to help us find our way around Mark and to feel the urgency and excitement of Mark’s Gospel in a way that is new and fresh. Wright’s book helps us to find Mark full of interest and delight, with a powerful message that comes home to the church today and tomorrow just as much as it did to the church of yesterday. Mark is the Gospel we will be reading in our services during 2009.

Sisters Bible Study for Women Leader: Trisha Eccles
This study will be broken into two six-week sections. Section 1 will be "Unfailing Love: Growing Closer to Jesus Christ”. Section 2 will be "A Mile in Her Shoes: Lessons from the Lives of Old Testament Women". Each meeting will connect a weekly video segment and group discussion to individual study, with a focus on making Scripture a part of women's daily lives.

Understanding Homelessness Leaders: Randy & Cynthia Stacey
To better understand homelessness and how we should interact with those affected by it, this class will encounter homelessness in an interactive manner. Participants will not only learn about homelessness in an academic sense but will also have the opportunity for hands-on experience with homeless ministries, such as the Helping Hands Clinic. The purpose of this class is to help us, as Christians, respond as faithful disciples in ministering to the homeless community.
